On 29 January, Mr Vo Van Thuong, Head of Secretariat of the Da Nang People’s Committee Office reported that the number of tourists to the city is likely to reach 261,500 in January. 111,900 of them were foreigners, representing a 3.5% increase compared with the same period last year.
Thanks to this, the city’s tourism sector in January 2015 is expected to earn an estimated 765.2 billion VND in revenue, a 20% year-on-year increase.
The Prime Minister has approved in principle that Da Nang will establish its Department of Tourism to create favourable conditions for the city to take advantage of its strengths to become a metropolitan of Viet Nam as well as a big socio-economic centre taking the role of the industrial, commercial and service centre of the central region of Viet Nam by 2020. This will create an important impetus for the development of provinces and cities of the central region and highlands of Viet Nam as per the order of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee.
The city has set the plan to organise such big activities as the Da Nang International Fireworks Competition and the Summer Destination Programme to attract more domestic and foreign visitors this year.
